LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Donation after donation, each one tells a different story.
Las Vegas residents are stepping up to help families in California who lost so much in the devastating wildfires and are now facing yet another challenge: access to clean water.
FOX5, in partnership with community partners, launched a water drive to provide relief to those in need – and the community didn’t hesitate to answer that call.

United Nissan has served as the drop off location for the drive, while Albertsons and Vons have collected donations at their pin pads. Together, these efforts have resulted in dozens of pallets of water being collected for wildfire victims.
“Were about halfway to our goal,” said Robert Plakinger of United Nissan. “We want to get up to 100 pallets of water. Today, more donations arrived and we’re going to keep going throughout this coming week.”
Goodwill of Southern Nevada joined the effort by donating two semi-trucks to deliver the water. On Friday morning, the trucks arrived at United Nissan, carrying more pallets of water donated by shoppers at Albertsons and Vons.
“We have trucks, and we have people. We are happy to pitch in,” said Bryan Stewart with Goodwill of Southern Nevada.
Karen Wellborn, a store manager at Albertsons, said the generosity she has witnessed has been overwhelming.
“There were several times where customers were crying, and we were crying,” Wellborn said. “It was especially hard for one of my cashiers, whose neighborhood was completely lost.”
The water drive is still ongoing. Those interested in donating can drop off bottled water at United Nissan or donate at the pin pad at Albertsons and Vons grocery stores.
