LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A donation center in the Las Vegas Valley is helping support foster families as they bring children into their homes, and they’re turning to the community to help keep their shelves stocked.

Peggy’s Attic, Clark County Department of Family Services’ Donation Center, allows foster parents to shop for free upon initial placement.

Katie Krikorian is one of those foster parents. She’s fostered a dozen foster children, with three currently in her care, and each time she says she’s shopped at Peggy’s Attic.

“If Peggy’s Attic weren’t here, we would have a hard time keeping up,” she says. “Usually, I pick them up from the NICU and they just have that one little shirt on and a diaper.”

Parents can get their foster child several changes of clothes, a brand new pair of shoes, and even toys and other accessories.

“Often when children are placed in protective custody, they have nothing,” Clark County Family Services Specialist Anita Flores-Yanez says. “So, people don’t have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars immediately after picking the child up.”

Clark County Officials say, thanks to specialized services like Peggy’s Attic, 2023 was the first year they’ve had a net gain in the number of foster parents they have, although hundreds of homes are still needed.

However, they rely on the community to keep Peggy’s Attic’s shelves stocked. Right now they especially need baby toys, diapers and wipes. They say about 45% of children in their care are under five years old.

Anyone interested can make an appointment to bring items to Peggy’s Attic Monday-Thursday by calling 702-455-5424.
