LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The search continues for a hit-and-run driver accused of seriously injuring a woman on Thanksgiving Day.
In an update shared Monday, Nevada State Police revealed that the injured woman was standing in the road after her vehicle crashed moments before the hit-and-run.
An initial investigation found that a red 2004 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling south on I-15 when the driver failed to maintain their lane. The driver then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise and travel southwest across all lanes. The vehicle then struck a concrete median barrier.
Following that crash, the driver and the woman exited their vehicle.
The woman was then struck by an unknown SUV with an unknown driver, which fled the area.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and has been identified as Karina Isabel Gonzalez, 28. She died from her injuries on Friday, Dec. 13.
Investigators also stated that parts of the unknown SUV were located at the scene. The vehicle is believed to be a 2021, 2022, or 2023 GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Suburban Tahoe with a damaged driver’s side mirror.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
