CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -Latino Lobby Day provided community members with an opportunity to participate in the political process of the Nevada legislature.
More than 100 community members from Northern and Southern Nevada gathered to discuss issues impacting the Latino community.
There were opportunities for the Latino community of all ages and of all backgrounds to get involved and have their voices heard on the bills that matter to them. Attendees were also given the chance to learn about the legislative process and the Latino legislators who represent them.
The day began with a bus ride provided by Washoe County Commissioner Mariluz Garcia. Members of the community in Reno had the opportunity to get to the Nevada Capitol for free.
This year’s Latino Lobby Day was held on “Cesar Chavez Day,” to honor the labor and civil right leader.
Even Senator Edgar Flores gave a speech about his roots, his upbringing, and the importance of community.
Among some of the bills heard was a bill to make April 10 the day of Dolores Huerta. Huerta is a prominent activist for farmworker rights, women’s rights, and immigrant rights.
Legislators as well as Latino lobby organizers encourage the entire community to participate in person or even online in the legislative process. More details in the following link.
