LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Leaders from across the valley and the state came together for a summit focused on bringing more jobs and industries to Nevada.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance spoke about efforts to diversify Nevada’s economy.

Alliance reports progress across multiple industries

The LVGEA said it worked to bring 20 companies to Nevada in a number of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare and logistics.

The alliance said unemployment can be a pathway forward.

“That’s not necessarily a bad thing if we are able to then transfer the skill sets of those people looking for work into the new emerging technologies,” said Danielle Casey, president and CEO of the LVGEA. “So I will go back to collaboration and working hand in glove between the business community alongside all of our higher ed institutions, but also our K through 12 programs to make sure that we are looking at the jobs of the future and creating pathways right now.”

Advantages and challenges for the region

Leaders said the benefits of doing business in Nevada include the airport, proximity to ports on the coast and a better cost of living for workers.

Economic experts said there are challenges facing the region, including finding trained workers and water.
