LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — (UNLVRebels.com) –Senior Trevor Lewis grabbed the day-one individual lead while the UNLV men’s golf team positioned itself in second Monday to open the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club (par 70, 6,753 yards).

REBEL ROUNDUP: Lewis went bogey-free with a first-round 5-under 65 that included an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and three birdies. Contributing additional Rebel par-or-better rounds, junior Zach Little shot a 2-under 68 to sit in a tie for fifth, and junior Ryan Abuan added an even-par 70 to stand in a tie for 15th.

LEADERBOARD: One of only two teams to end the day under par, the Rebels carded a 2-under 278 to put themselves within five shots of host Pepperdine (-7) in the team lead. Lewis, meanwhile, holds a two-shot advantage over Utah’s Sergio Jimenez, San Diego State’s Harry Takis, and the Waves’ Luke Dariotis in second at 3-under 67.

The Scarlet & Gray is also represented at the event by senior Wyatt Plattner (+5) in a tie for 51st and junior Mason Snyder (+6) in a tie for 58th. Competing as an individual, senior Brett Sawaia (+6) joins Snyder in tie for 58th.

UP NEXT: UNLV’s lineup tees off in the second round at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
