LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Valley is preparing for a High Wind Warning on Monday.
The National Weather Service issued the warning on Sunday, which is set to last until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Wind gusts are expected to range from 25 to 35 mph, but can get up to 50 mph. Gusts above 90 mph are expected at elevations above 8000 feet.
Currently, the FAA has issued a 45-minute ground delay on departing flights out of Harry Reid International Airport. According to FlightAware, 117 flights have been delayed so far this morning.
Meteorologists advise valley residents to secure loose items and stay vigilant for blown-down trees and power lines. Power outages are also expected throughout the valley.
Outside the valley, the NWS notes that the first freeze of the season could kill crops or sensitive outdoor vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be at risk.
Those traveling on interstates and freeways are urged to use caution, as winds may make travel difficult.
This is a developing story, check back later for updates.
