LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas police have identified the officer fatally killed in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon.

North Las Vegas police officers responded to reports of a person with a handgun near Lone Mountain and Camino Al Norte.

When officers approached the suspect gunfire shortly followed the encounter.

NLVPD identified the officer as 46-year-old Jason Roscow who was shot and killed.

Roscow began working with the department in 2007. He worked in various divisions of the department including Traffic and Patrol Operations.

Officials say the fallen officer was recognized with the Exemplary Service Award.

Las vegas agencies are set to honor Officer Roscow at 4 p.m. with a formal procession from the Clark County Coroner’s Office to Palm Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery.
