LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Henderson shopping center that completed construction 15 years ago but was never occupied, the Monument at Calico Ridge, became an eyesore on the drive out to Lake Las Vegas.

The center was built in 2008. Then there was the recession.
Then as a second push to open. Then there was Covid.

In the last six months, there has been a major change. Under a third owner, the shopping center is now booming. Now there are four (soon to be five) new restaurants, a nail salon, gym, family doctor, an orthodontist and insurance company.

The property is at the center of a housing boom. Homes are being built every day in Lake Las Vegas to the east and Cadence to the west.

“Everyone in this center is exactly the same. They are locals just trying to bring more businesses out this way,” explained Stacy McBride, owner of Two Sisters Broasted Chicken and Ribs. For McBride and her sister, this is a second location on the opposite end of the valley as their Sky Canyon sit down.

“We have only been open six weeks, but it has been phenomenal,” McBride shared.

Customers are now coming from as far as Pahrump for their signature broasted chicken.

“It was scary at first because we thought no one is going to know we are here but I am talking day we opened…it just took one person to put on social media and it branched out and everybody just started coming,” McBride recounted.

“We would always walk around and hope something would be open so we were really happy when it was opened,” shared Eva Tovar who lives nearby.

PowerSoul Cafe is now open with a drive thru 24/ 7 and has also quickly found loyal fans.

“I love it. It is so good,” Tovar contended.

“I feel like I hit the jackpot…There wasn’t much out here and there was so many homes. It wasn’t hard for me to do that math,” explained PowerSoul Cafe owner Dina Mitchell.

Since opening in June, Mitchell says sales continue to grow, so much so there aren’t enough Uber Eats delivery drivers in the area to drop off the orders.

“Come 10 o’clock there are people ordering… they are ordering at 3 AM… I have customers saying on a daily basis thank god you are here,” Mitchell revealed.

Giuseppe’s Italian Bar & Grille, what will be the fifth restaurant in the center is slated to open late fall. It is also permitted to be open 24/7 and will have gaming.

There are still a few vacant store fronts remaining in the shopping center.
