LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An illegal black market marijuana sale in east Las Vegas ended in a fatal shooting next a park full of children.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened next to Lewis Family Park around 4:22 p.m.

Lt. Jason Johansson said the southeast area command responded to reports of a shooting at Tree Line and Grass Meadows. When officers arrived on scene, they found a male shot by the driver’s seat of a car.

Medical responded and transported him to Sunrise Hospital where he later died.

While police were securing the scene, they were approaching by a citizen who said two males in dark clothing and ski masks ran by during the shooting and ran into an apartment.

Officers formed an action team and contacted the residents inside the apartment. Two males exited and police took them both into custody.

Homicide detectives believe the shooting happened during a dispute or robbery of an illegal black market marijuana sale.

Johansson says he’s “fairly confident” the two suspects in custody are directly related to the shooting.

Police are executing a search warrant on the vehicle involved.

Johansson says police “dodged a bullet” in this shooting as there were many children at the park.

He also believes there could be many witnesses who saw the shooting.
