LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A CCSD teacher grabbed a student’s shoulder and pushed him to the ground for tripping on spilled water.

FOX5 obtained an arrest report for 47-year-old Mateusz Baran. He has been employed with the Clark County School District since July 2024.

He was arrested for child abuse from an investigation on December 12 at Sunrise Acres Elementary School. He’s on paid leave, CCSD Police said.

Las Vegas police arrived to the elementary school day of the incident and interviewed the principal. She said an internal investigation was started at a classroom.

She said a 10-year-old student tripped and accidentally spilled water that was being held by another student, a 14-year-old.

The principal said Mr. Baran got upset, grabbed the boy by the shoulder and pushed them to the ground and told the student to “clean it up.”

The principal took photos of red marks on the boy’s shoulder.

There were also other witnesses of the incident, six 10-year-olds and one 12-year-old.

The next day, police interviewed the student and his mother. The mom said the two went to UMC and found he had a sprain on his shoulder, but no fractures. He was given a sling for support.

The student told police Mr. Baran apologized to him later day of the incident and told him to keep it a secret.

Police would arrest Baran from the investigation. He’s due in Las Vegas Justice Court in January.
