LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police said a suspect breaking in to a Spring Valley home was fatally shot.

Police said the incident started around 7:40 a.m. in the 6400 block of Placer Drive. The call to dispatch was the homeowner saying someone was breaking in.

The caller said windows of their home were shattered.

During the call, dispatch heard a gunshot. When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medical responded while officers attempted life-saving measures. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he would later die.

Police said the homeowner is being cooperative in the investigation and Lt. Jason Johansson does not anticipate any arrests.

He says any possible charges would be relayed by the Clark County district attorney’s office.

Officers will still be on scene in the area to gather surveillance video and canvass the area for additional witnesses.

Officers are on scene in the 6400 block of Placer Drive. This is near Harmon Avenue and Jones Boulevard.

Lt. Jason Johansson said there will be a media briefing at 12 p.m. FOX5 plans to be there and provide the latest.

So far, homicide detectives said the suspect hand was bleeding when they arrived. The homeowner said the suspect was “acting irrational” when confronted.
