LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police say footage from an SD card led to the arrest of a suspect accused in a deadly shooting, according to an arrest report obtained by FOX5.

35-year-old Jaron Amey was taken into custody on Wednesday, Aug. 14 after a man was found dead near a dumpster on Maryland Parkway three days earlier.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 5000 block of Maryland Parkway on Aug. 11 around 9:53 p.m. A victim of the shooting was found lying in an area parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say the victim, identified as 46-year-old Eric Davis, would later be confirmed dead at the scene.

During an investigation, police were handed an SD from an “anonymous camera” that contained footage from the incident. Investigators noted that Amey and Davis could be seen in the footage, followed by off-camera gunshots.

The video then showed Amey walking away from the area, appearing to tuck a weapon into his waistband, according to the report.

The report also noted that multiple witnesses claimed the shooting stemmed from an argument over money.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, a woman who identified herself as Amey’s girlfriend flagged down police, claiming that Amey was holding two men hostage at gunpoint inside a security booth. She would tell officers that Amey was angry that she and the two hostages “ratted him out to the cops.”

Amey would release the hostage and flee the scene before police arrived.

After interviewing the girlfriend and other witnesses, police were able to apprehend Amey at his current residence and take him into custody.

During an interview, Amey would tell police that Davis was approaching him and “was coming at him.” Amey admitted that he shot Davis after he “would not back up.”

Amey is currently being held in Clark County Detention Center and is facing charges of murder, kidnapping, and robbery. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 17.
