LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV men’s tennis sophomore Illia Maksymchuk has been named the Raising Cane’s Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday, as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

Maksymchuk, a native of Ukraine, went 5-0 in singles play to capture the title at the inaugural Mountain West Qualifier held at Darling Tennis Center. The win earned him a spot in the ITA Masters set for Nov. 7-10 in Georgia, which is the road to receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Singles Championship.
