LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in connection with an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash that left a woman and a toddler from the United Kingdom with life-threatening injuries near the Strip.
Gavin Caci, 28, appeared in court and entered not guilty pleas to DUI and hit-and-run charges stemming from the February 8 crash near East Harmon Avenue and Audrie Lane.
During the hearing, prosecutors invoked the state’s right to a speedy trial. Defense attorneys objected, saying they have had difficulty receiving discovery materials and will need additional time to hire an expert witness.
The state offered to provide a digital copy of the discovery, and a trial was set for Monday, April 13 at 9 a.m.
The crash occurred just after 7:30 p.m. when a gray 2026 Tesla Model Y was traveling east on Harmon when the driver failed to maintain his lane, drove onto the south sidewalk, then re-entered the roadway and struck the rear of a stopped 2024 Chevrolet Trax before veering back toward the sidewalk.
Police said the Tesla then hit three pedestrians — two adults and a 2-year-old in a stroller — who were standing on the southwest corner of the intersection.
The driver fled eastbound without stopping, but a witness followed the vehicle to the Topgolf parking lot, where officers later located him.
Caci, identified by police as the driver, reportedly showed signs of impairment before being booked into jail on DUI and hit-and-run counts.
The three pedestrians were transported to University Medical Center’s trauma center.
A 38-year-old man suffered minor injuries, while a 32-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries, police said. Officers later shared a video of the family visiting with officers who responded to the crash that day.
Police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
