LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man has been arrested for a dog found dead inside a kennel near an east Las Vegas dumpster in July, police say.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says 33-year-old Darrion Lamar has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center for an animal abuse charge. The dog was found on July 11. Police believed the dog may have already died before it was dropped off.

In July, FOX5 obtained surveillance footage that showed two people appearing to push a kennel the night before it was found near 27th and Valley Street, then walking northbound on 27th before turning eastbound on Sunrise Avenue.

“It does appear that the dog was already deceased prior to being dumped by the two individuals,” police say.

Police did not immediately say if Lamar is the sole suspect or if they are continuing to search for another individual.

The investigation is being led by the LVMPD Animal Cruelty Detail in conjunction with the Clark County Animal Protection Services and community partners. Detectives are asking for the community’s help in identifying the individuals responsible for this incident.
