LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man charged with 13 felonies following the shooting of a Las Vegas middle school campus security monitor last year has agreed to plead guilty to a pair of those counts.

Jessie Rios, 18, was arrested on May 8, 2023, after a shooting was reported at 12:38 p.m. at Von Tobel Middle School. An adult male staff member was struck by gunfire and taken to University Medical Center.

The Education Support Employees Association later confirmed that the staff member was a campus monitor. No students were injured.

Rios was further implicated following the release of a jailhouse phone call he had with his brother in which the two discussed the crime.

According to court documents, on May 14, Rios agreed to plead guilty to one count of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm from within a structure or vehicle. The other charges against him will be dropped.

A sentencing hearing before Judge Christy Craig in Clark County District Court is scheduled for June 27.
