LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A jury on Friday convicted a Montana man of killing two people in connection with a large-scale marijuana distribution scheme in Nevada.

On June 19, 2020, Jered Stefansky disappeared. Investigators said he had been traveling to Nevada for a marijuana transaction. Stefansky’s skeletal remains were discovered months later, in March 2021. Detectives said Stefansky’s last phone call was linked to Spurlock, making him a person of interest in the killing.

According to U.S. Department of Justice officials, Spurlock and another man, Will Larsen, ran a large-scale marijuana distribution business in Mound House, a small community just east of Carson City. After Stefansky’s mother spoke publicly on a podcast, testimony indicated that Spurlock began suspecting Larsen was an informant and arranged to kill him.

Prosecutors accused Spurlock and other co-conspirators of stalking Larsen and his wife across Nevada and California between October and November 2020. On Nov. 8, 2020, Will Larsen and his wife, Yesenia Larsen, were shot and stabbed to death near Bridgeport, California. In addition, Spurlock robbed Larsen, they said.

“Spurlock was found guilty of one count each of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana; murder-for-hire conspiracy; tampering with a witness by killing; interference with commerce by robbery; causing death through use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence; and two counts of stalking resulting in death,” a U.S. Department of Justice news release said.

Spurlock faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16, 2025.
