LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The man accused of killing a two-year-old boy after he wet himself has pleaded guilty.

Terrell Rhodes was accused of killing two-year-old Amari Nicholson, his girlfriend’s son, in 2021 and burying his body at a nearby hotel. Amari was initially reported missing by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police but was found dead a week later.

Court records show Rhodes agreed to plead guilty to first degree murder and assault on a protected person. The second charge stems from an in-custody fight for an officer’s gun following Rhodes’ arrest.

The guilty plea agreement states that the parties agree to 20 years to life for the murder charge with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

According to police, Rhodes confessed to the killing of Amari while his mother, Tayler Nicholson, was out of town. Rhodes told police that on May 5, 2021 at about 4:30 a.m., Amari had “urinated in his clothing several times.” After that, Rhodes became upset and hit Amari between 3-4 times “with a closed fist.”

“At some point, Amari turned blue and purple in the face and stopped breathing,” an arrest report read.

Rhodes said he tried to administer CPR on the child but was unsuccessful. He carried the boy’s lifeless body out of the apartment and disposed of him at another location, the report read.

Amari’s case captured the hearts of the Las Vegas community, leading to community searches and vigils for the boy.
