LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A thief has broken into some mailboxes at the Sunrise Estates mobile home community 9-10 times since July.
“Extremely frustrating,” said Luke Ritzma.
Luke Ritzma and his wife Alyssa’s mailbox has been broken into three times. They lost some checks, that had to be canceled.
“I have a lady who was crying in my office because her grandmother, who passed away, it was the last birthday card that they had sent and now that’s gone,” said manager Alexander Westermann.
Westermann says they’ve had trouble trying to get someone to pay attention to the ongoing problem. United States Postal Inspector Service officials said they wanted to talk with Westermann and look at the video, after FOX5 reached out to inspectors.
“We urge all citizens if they believe they are a victim of mail theft to contact the Postal Inspection Service via web at USPIS.gov and file a complaint under the report tab or to call 1-877-876-2455,” said Trevor Hudson with the U.S. Postal Inspector Service.
While Metro Police say the agency responsible for mail theft investigations is the U.S. Postal Inspectors, they say if anyone sees the thief in the act, they should call 911. They say call 311 if people see the man walking down the street, or Crime Stoppers, 702-385-5555, if they know the man’s name.
