LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – More than 300 people across the Las Vegas Valley die every year after exposure to fentanyl-laced drugs, and to save lives, health leaders have mapped out by zip code where the most deaths occur.

The Southern Nevada Health District, in a report for the Regional Opioid Task Force, broke down the top zip codes for opioid deaths, all in the central part of the Valley: the deadliest area is Downtown Las Vegas, the 89101 zip code, with 32 deaths per 100,000 people.

Other top zip codes: 89104 (21 deaths per 100,000), 89121 (19 deaths per 100,000), 89119 (15 deaths per 100,000)– all in the central part of the Valley. Other nearby neighborhoods are also impacted with higher rates: 89115, 89123,89106, 89103, and 89011.

FOX5 has told you how health officials are working to get Narcan, or naloxone, and fentanyl test strips, to communities in need across the Valley.

In 2023, more than 370 people died from fentanyl-related causes. In 2024, preliminary data shows 350 deaths are tied to fentanyl, but that number is expected to rise.

“Most people don’t want to seek out fentanyl and don’t want to unintentionally consume something that’s very deadly. We’re trying to give people the materials and resources that they need that they can protect their lives,“ said Brandon Delise, SNHD Senior Epidemiologist.

Leaders with the Clark County Regional Opioid Task Force explained why certain areas are more impacted than others, which include a lack of access to healthcare and mental healthcare.

The 89101 zip code, like others which are mentioned, ranks high in the CDC’s “Social Vulnerability Index“: high unemployment, lack of insurance, challenges with housing and other socio-economic disparities.
