SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) – Wednesday Update: The Marie Fire is 60% contained, according to a Wednesday, June 11, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) news release.

BLM and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) firefighters have stopped the forward spread and secured the perimeter of the 115-acre blaze.

Ground crews are working to increase containment by securing control lines and mopping up remaining hot spots.

To date, 120 fire personnel have responded including seven engines, two Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs), and two helicopters.

Overall fire activity remains low, but creeping and smoldering pockets of heat remain.

During the afternoon heat, there’s light smoke caused by smoldering fuels.

“Hot, dry weather with low relative humidity and gusty winds remains a concern for fire activity,” according to the the release.

No structures have been lost.

The public is asked to stay out of the fire area.

10:30 p.m. Update: Evacuations have been lifted and residents are able to return home.

Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue shared via social media that the fire is 30% contained and crews will remain in the area throughout the night to monitor hot spots and continue securing fire lines.

7:30 p.m. Update: Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue is reporting that forward progress has stopped on the Marie Fire and it’s estimated to have burned around 104 acres. The evacuation zone has also been reduced.

6:42 p.m. Update: NV Energy is de-energizing power lines in the area of the Marie Fire. The utility provider was not able to give an estimated time for restoration, but said people should be ready for prolonged outages. It also warns customers that more outages could occur. The outage and emergency map shows thousands of homes left without power at this time.

Truckee Meadows is providing an update, listing the fire’s estimated size around 60 acres. The agency reports that no structures have been lost, and no one has been injured.

Gov. Joe Lombardo is also taking to social media, asking Nevadans to be safe and evacuate if ordered.

6:15 p.m. Update: According to Nevada Fire Info, the Marie Fire in Spanish Springs has reached 70 acres in size. The Nevada Division of Emergency Management says it is actively monitoring the fire, and is preparing to assist local partners if requested.

Several hotels in Reno are offering special room rates to people impacted by the Marie Fire. The Peppermill asks people to use the code ‘HEVAC’ at the time of booking. Caesars Entertainment tells us the Silver Legacy, Eldorado, and Circus Circus will also be offering a discount.

5:30 p.m. Update: The Marie Fire has grown to 25 acres, according to Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue. It is currently burning in juniper sage and winds are driving the flames east. TMFR, Reno Fire, Sparks Fire, and BLM are all responding. Air attack is also being implemented and additional resources are being requested.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Evacuations have been ordered as firefighters are responding to a brush fire near Spanish Springs. It was reported just after 4:00 p.m. near Dolores Drive and Marie Way on Tuesday afternoon. It has burned an estimated 5-10 acres. The fire is being driven by wind and structures are threatened.

Washoe County officials and Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue are asking residents to refer to http://perimetermap.com for the evacuation perimeter and updates.

Anyone in the evacuation zone that needs a place to go is advised to head to the Sky Ranch Middle School.
