LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — In what could be one of the most spectacular sporting events of the year, boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to face off once again in a historic rematch at Sphere Las Vegas.
The highly anticipated bout, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, will mark the first-ever professional boxing match held at the state-of-the-art Sphere and will be broadcast live on Netflix, Sphere Vegas announced via Twitter on Monday.
The two champions first met in 2015 in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Mayweather emerged victorious by unanimous decision in a bout that generated over $600 million in revenue, making it the highest-grossing pay-per-view event in boxing history at the time.
Mayweather, 48, retired with a perfect 50-0 record and is widely considered one of the greatest defensive fighters in boxing history. Since his official retirement, he has participated in several exhibition matches but has not competed professionally since defeating Conor McGregor in 2017.
Pacquiao, 47, an eight-division world champion and the only boxer to hold world titles in four different decades, remains one of the sport’s most beloved figures. The Filipino senator and boxing icon has continued to stay in fighting shape despite his political career.
Ticket information and pricing have not been released, though demand is expected to be extraordinarily high given the limited capacity of the Sphere compared to traditional boxing venues.
