LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metro police responded to reports of a crash in the southwest valley Monday afternoon.
Two people riding scooters were struck by a car on Warm Springs and Torrey Pines.
Police discovered a 22-year-old man was killed and a 14-year-old boy was injured following the incident.
The Clark County Coroner identified the 22-year-old as Christopher Soto.
Throughout Tuesday afternoon, a pile of flowers was formed on the corner of the intersection by Soto’s family and friends.
One of Soto’s friends, Vianca Munoz stopped by and spoke with FOX5.
She shared he was caring and funny. She also expressed how this is a huge loss to no longer have his personality in their friend group.
“It’s going to be hard, especially knowing that he was kind of the life of the group and everything,” Munoz says.
Not only did Munoz lose a friend Monday, she says she watched the accident unfold.
She says she was coincidentally driving through the intersection, and recognized the two victims on scooters. She was horrified when she saw what happened next.
“When he hit the ground, I was thinking, ‘please get back up, please get back up,‘” Munoz says. ‘“Don’t leave us. You know, don’t leave us.‘”
Monday’s crash marks the third fatality FOX5 has reported involving either an e-bike or e-scooter since the start of 2025.
Late February, a 62-year-old was killed on an e-bike in the northwest valley. In January, an e-scooter rider was hit near Nellis and Twain. The 42-year-old died from his injuries one month later.
Commissioner Justin Jones says he’s hoping an ordinance he’s proposing will make our roads safer. It clarifies how e-bikes and e-scooters can be used on roads, and restricts the use of certain e-bikes at parks.
If passed, Jones says it will come with a lot of education and new signage. He says they have a draft of the ordinance, and they hope to introduce it within the next 30 days.
As of Monday, the 14-year-old who was injured in the crash was hospitalized in critical condition according to Metro Police.
