LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada roads continue to prove deadly this year, and Clark County has the deadliest roads in the state by far.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department recently shared which intersections see the most crashes.
Just because an intersection didn’t make the list doesn’t give you the green light to think you’re driving out of the danger zone.
“At the end of the day, I think the community members need to be vigilant at every roadway they’re driving on,” says Lieutenant Anthony Cavaricci with Metro’s Traffic Bureau.
Those top five collision intersections so far this year are:
- Flamingo and Rainbow (26)
- Eastern and Sahara (24)
- Charleston and Lamb (23)
- Jones and Tropicana (22)
- And Maryland and Sahara (20)
FOX5 has been covering crashes at each intersection listed above, many deadly, for years.
Metro Police Captain Jeff Clark says it’s Sheriff Kevin McMahill’s goal to keep traffic fatalities under 120 for the year because the damage left behind doesn’t just stay on the roads or with the families of those affected.
“It always stays with you when we respond to any fatal accidents or any loss of human life. It’s something that our officers have to deal with and you take with you for the rest of your life,” Captain Clark said.
“The choices you make while driving potentially are deadly and can end up in the death of yourself or another community member, and we can’t afford to lose any more lives on our roadways,” Lt Cavaricci added.
The state has released the latest numbers on deadly crashes from the beginning of the year through April 30th.
In that period, there have been 128 deadly crashes across the state.
That’s up from 119 from the same time last year.
Statewide, there have also been 133 deaths, down slightly from 137.
Captain Clark says enough is enough.
“I‘ve been on countless deaths and deadly scenes, whether it’s shootings, stabbings, nothing can prepare anybody for the damage and the carnage that is caused in vehicle accidents,” Captain Clark said.
Metro’s big message here is that every time you speed, you’re not just breaking the law, you’re gambling with lives, including your own.
