LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers will face LAPD officers in a charity boxing event Sunday at Virgin Hotels.

The Sin City Showdown will feature about a dozen bouts, including a main event pitting LAPD’s undefeated champion against one of Metro’s top fighters. Several matches will feature local youth boxers.

Training gym and community impact

Officers said they train at Center Ring Boxing, which provides a safe place for children after school. The gym has also produced a Golden Gloves champion.

“We’re hoping this brings the community together to cheer for us,” said LVMPD sergeant Albert Carreon. “Some of our officers have lost up to 50 pounds training for these kinds of events. We’re hoping to have the community support us and hopefully support Center Ring as we go through it.”

Event details

The event is Sunday, March 29, at Virgin Hotels. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first fight at 6 p.m.

Organizers said tickets must be purchased in advance. A link to tickets can be found here.
