LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Fewer tourists are rolling the dice on a trip to the sports and entertainment capital of the world, according to new data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The valley saw a double-digit drop year over year for visitors in June, down 11.3%, according to LVCVA data. The city welcomed nearly 400,000 fewer visitors in June compared to the same time in 2024. The data represents the first double-digit decline since 2021. Convention attendance also dropped, falling 10.7% from June 2024.

MGM Resorts International executives, not dissuaded, said they see significant growth ahead, citing digital growth, record-setting results in China, and the company’s regional properties. During the company’s second-quarter 2025 earnings call, officials said they believe those successes would offset a “choppy period” for Las Vegas. MGM executives predicted an upswing for convention traffic as well.

“On the groups and convention side, our bookings are packing up double digits thanks to a robust 2026 convention calendar,” officials said during the earnings call. “The Las Vegas Convention Center is spending $1.6 billion to renovate its legacy campus and expand the West Hall, and remains on track to finish by the end of the year.”

MGM executives say they are particularly excited about professional sports and the tourists they believe those franchises will bring to Las Vegas, referencing the $1.8 billion home of the Athletics MLB franchise at the former site of the Tropicana. Officials said the new venue is expected to bring 400,000 new visitors to Las Vegas every year.

The company said its properties are within the “golden triangle” of Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena and the new MLB stadium. Each major sports team is within a mile of the others.
