LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A subject who pointed a handgun at officers surrendered after a police shooting.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened Saturday at 3:56 p.m. in the 8200 block of Green Valley Road. This is about 2 hours southeast of Las Vegas.

Deputies responded to a welfare check. When they arrived, a male confronted police and pointed a handgun in their direction.

Officials say that’s when a deputy fired at the subject. He surrendered, was treated on scene and transported to a medical facility for more treatment.

Detectives with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were called to investigate the police shooting. The county says it’s standard protocol to have an outside agency investigate police shootings.

Mohave County officials say the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Officials say no deputies for civilians were injured. The investigation is ongoing and the name of the deputy is not being released yet.
