LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – For valley residents living and driving through Inspirada, FOX5 has a timeline of when the roundabout near Via Inspirada and Bicentennial Parkway will be gone.
Earlier this month FOX5 reported about nearby neighbors, who highlighted the roundabout’s signs being confusing and causing crashes. Now, the city has heard the complaints and is ready to take action.
“Nothing makes sense and everyone gets confused,” said Dani Johnson, a resident.
It is confusing and frustrating for drivers like Johnson who go through the “figure-8″ roundabout, as some drivers on the inside lane drive straight when they are not supposed to.
“If it was circular, we wouldn’t have that many complaints about it,” Eric Hawkins, the city traffic engineer said.
Hawkins tells FOX5 he is well aware that many do not like this particular roundabout.
With the new Inspirada Station being built, drivers have some good news: the roundabout will be gone and replaced with a traffic signal. However, until then Hawkins reassures us there will be a temporary fix in place with more signage added this summer to let drivers know which lane they should be in as they get closer to the roundabout.
“I think the roundabout can hold the amount of traffic, right now at the moment is the confusion,” Hawkins said.
The city of Henderson tells FOX5 that during the peak hours, there are about 1,700 cars that drive through the roundabout daily. However, since 2018, there have been 95 crashes in that roundabout.
While most are not serious, it is still an inconvenient challenge for drivers.
“That is frustrating for anyone to go through an accident,” Johnson said.
In an email to FOX5, the city of Henderson gave us the following timeline to deconstruct the roundabout:
- Next week — Advertise for Bids
- August — Materials notice to proceed (which will allow the contractor to order long-lead items)
- November — Construction is expected to begin.
The construction will likely last a year.
