LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas Valley family searches for answers after a hit-and-run driver killed their loved one.
A driver hit 46-year-old Javan Christian along Stewart Avenue near Mojave Road. Police identified the car as a white Chevrolet Malibu. Christian died at the scene, and Metro Police later found the suspect vehicle abandoned. Police say he was walking inside a marked crosswalk.
Wednesday morning, his family set up a memorial in his honor as the search for the driver continues. His mother says she didn’t learn about her son’s passing until three days later. She says police told her the car was a rental from California, making this a multi-state investigation.
The family pleads with the suspect to come forward.
“You treated him like trash. You need to turn yourself in. But you know what? God’s got this,” said Kimberly Christian. “If he doesn’t turn himself in, we’re going to find him. It just leaves a big hole in our hearts because we’re a small family, just me, my mom and my brother. And this person has taken a piece of us away, and they just left.”
The family says stricter monitoring and tougher enforcement are needed to prevent tragedies like her son’s.
