LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The mother of a man police say accidentally drowned in a pool is remembering her son as the Las Vegas community expresses shock over his death.

Christina Dunn said she is at a loss for words while simply trying to process the death of her firstborn child, Tayshaun Todd.

“My heart is completely broken,” Dunn said.

Todd was found dead in a pool on June 18 after a party the night before in the 2600 block of East Palma Vista Avenue. Police said they were investigating Todd’s death as an accidental drowning.

His mother described him as a sweet, smart, funny human who lifted people when they struggled.

“A lot of people heard the news, and they were like ‘Oh no’ because they knew him from playing ball at all the Henderson rec centers and at Atlas,” Dunn said. “That’s what he loved. He loved basketball.”

Dunn said Todd wasn’t a party goer, adding that the party he had attended the night before his body was found was only his second-ever.

“All he did was work, play ball, and come home,” Dunn said. “That’s it.”

One of Todd’s friends had notified his mother that he was nowhere to be found on the night of the party.

“I was like ‘What do you mean he never came out?’” she recounted, adding that she got the address from Todd’s friend. Dunn said that the disappearance wasn’t his usual behavior.

Dunn described the loss as heartbreaking.

“I feel like a piece of me is just missing,” Dunn said.

Dunn said she is staying true to her faith and taking in the support of so many people, both in Las Vegas and from he home state of Michigan.

“It definitely has woken up Las Vegas and back home in Detroit,” Dunn said, adding that she would never want another mother or family to go through a loss like the one she is attempting to process.
