LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A motorcyclist was killed and another is fighting for his life after two valley crashes from this past weekend.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the first crash occurred on Bonanza Road and Tonopah Drive around 9:40 p.m. Friday. An initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Harley Davidson FLHXI “Street Glide” was traveling west on Bonanza with a group of other motorcycles.
The Harley Davidson entered a two-way center turn lane and sped past the other riders. The rider then struck a raised median and went airborne, police say.
Arriving medical crews transported the 51-year-old man to UMC Trauma, where he would later die.
“The motorcyclist’s death marked the 138th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release.
The second crash occurred at at Racel Street, west of Grazing Grass Street around 1:08 a.m. Saturday morning. Police say the motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve in the road and traveled onto the sidewalk.
The motorcyclist then entered a ditch and was thrown from his bike. Arriving crews helped transport him to UMC Trauma, where he is currently in critical condition.
Investigations into both crashes are currently ongoing.
