LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With so many veterans part of the Henderson community, the city decided it wanted to do something to honor them.

“We have 25,000 veterans who live in and call Henderson home,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.

It was decided that the city would erect a memorial wall. The location, beside the city hall, behind the Water Street Plaza. Several marble panels were erected to honor those who served.

When the Veterans Memorial Wall was dedicated Nov. 11, 1994, there were 1,200 names engraved on the marble panels.

That list has since grown to 2,000.

“It’s a wonderful, peaceful way to come recognize our war heroes and celebrate them,” Romero said.

The names on the wall include deceased Henderson veterans prior to 1980, along with those who served in the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars.

The wall also includes residents who served in more recent conflicts like the Global War on Terror. There is also one panel honoring Henderson residents who were killed in action.

This year, another 32 new names are being added. Each name represents a unique story of courage and dedication.
