LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Nevada Air National Guard has been deployed to assist in western wildfires.
The Nevada Air National Guard’s 152nd Airlift Wing started operations Saturday from Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. The wing was activated to support wildfire response across the western U.S., such as the Great Basin, Rocky Mountains, and Southern California.
“So far, crews have dropped 13,900 gallons of retardant on Colorado’s Crosho Fire,” The Nevada Air National Guard Base said. “One of only three Air National Guard units with this capability, the 152nd is working alongside the Air Force Reserve’s 302nd Airlift Wing under the direction of the National Interagency Fire Center.”
“The recent MAFFS activation in Colorado is a clear example of why we must ensure our Airmen remain trained, proficient, and ready to meet the expanding needs of state and federal responses, said Col. Catherine Grush, the 152nd Wing Commander. “Through empowered leadership, we take calculated and deliberate risks to ensure mission success—protecting lives, property, and our communities when they need us most.”
The National Air Guard has a history spanning more than 75 years.
