LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada Air National Guard has been activated to help in Southern California as those wildfires are still mostly uncontained.

On Friday, they’ll fly from here to the Channel Islands off the coast of SoCal with all of them ready by Sunday.

The last time the 152nd Airlift Wing’s “High Rollers” were activated was back in the summer.

Eight C-130s will be used to help build lines of containment to reduce the intensity and growth of the wildfires.

“The 152nd Airlift Wing, Nevada Air National Guard, is ready to assist in protecting the people, homes, and businesses in southern California.,” said Col. Catherine Grush, the Commander of the 152nd Airlift Wing. “Californians are not only our neighbors but part of our family of guardsmen and women and we are determined to help assist with this effort. We have Airmen that live in southern California who are members of our wing.”

The aircraft can drop up to 3,000 gallons of fire retardant in less than 10 seconds across a quarter mile.

This kind of help is desperately needed to help get containment numbers up.
