LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Attorney General Aaron D. Ford and Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar have announced a joint press conference Friday morning to discuss a new lawsuit challenging Trump’s latest order on elections.

The order, which was signed by Trump on Tuesday, seeks to create a list of U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote in each state and require the U.S. Postal Service to only send ballots to those listed. It would also restrict absentee ballots and threaten state and election officials with criminal penalties and loss of federal funding for noncompliance.

Nevada co-leads the 21-state coalition, alongside California, Massachusetts and Washington, to challenge the order in court.

Earlier this week, Secretary Aguilar released a statement in response to the order, which reads in part, “The President’s new Executive Order on elections is illegal. The Constitution makes it clear: states run elections. The President has spent years attempting to manufacture a crisis around mail voting when there is none. Any claims that there is widespread fraud in our elections are false and create chaos and confusion for voters in the middle of an election year.”

Aguilar statement also highlighted that 86% of Nevada’s voters have used a mail-in ballot, especially those living in rural counties. He also continues to maintain that Nevada runs “some of the most safe, secure and accessible elections in the country thanks to trusted, nonpartisan local election officials.”

The press conference is set for 11 a.m.
