LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has issued a statement following a federal judge’s ruling, halting the merger of grocery stores Kroger and Albertsons.

The Attorney General says he’s very pleased with the judges decision today and he believes this is a step in the right direction to protect consumers from rising grocery prices.

According to the Attorney General the lawsuit wants to block the proposed merger claiming it would violate the federal Clayton Act.

Officials believe if violated businesses could decrease their competition to possibly increase the price of goods without improving its quality.
