CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Division of Emergency Management/Homeland Security will transfer into the oversight of the Office of the Governor.

The change took effect Tuesday.

Authorized by the passage of Assembly Bill 553, the change will rename the division to the Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security.

“The realignment of Nevada’s Office of Emergency Management under the direct authority of the Governor’s Office marks a significant step forward in our state’s readiness and resilience,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “By placing emergency management at the cabinet level, we are ensuring that Nevada can respond to emergencies with speed, clarity, and unity. I have full confidence in our emergency management team, and I look forward to working directly with them to protect and serve Nevadans across every corner of our state.”

The change is designed to streamline statewide crisis responses, improve interagency coordination, and enhance the allocation of resources.

NV OEM will continue under existing leadership.
