LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Tuesday marked a step back toward normalcy as the DMV resumed some services for Nevadans.

While the actual DMV facility is still closed to the public following the recent ransomware attack, kiosks outside the buildings are back online for people to access for services such as renewing vehicle registration.

This led to long lines throughout the day Tuesday, well into the evening.

FOX5 saw steady lines outside the Sahara DMV until 9:30 p.m. as people waited to use the kiosks.

People like Saul Garcia were excited that wait was finally over to get his registration renewed.

Finally, you know, after waiting like 8 days already. Got my paper back. I’m feel so happy,” Garcia said.

It was far from perfect. Some people did struggle to use the kiosks Tuesday.

One man told FOX5 he waited upward of five hours after multiple failed attempts to work the kiosk.

Another woman shared she waited roughly an hour, got to kiosk and received an error message, forcing her to go back in line and try again.

Mike Rojas was one of the people frustrated by errors as he tried to renew his registration.

“It went kind of quick. A lot of people coming out with errors were asking other people for help,” Rojas said.“I’ll probably try a different kiosk, maybe it would maybe it wouldn’t. If not, I’ll have to wait to go inside hopefully.”

A mixed bag on the first day of services returning, but people like Darryl Shumpert, whose registration expired on Tuesday, are just happy to have a chance to get back to normal.

“No one lost life or limb. We might lose some assets or resources but they’ll get everything back online, back up and running,” Shumpert said.”
