LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The UNLV campus is one step closer to joining the Vegas Loop.

On Friday, the Nevada State of Higher Education Board of Regents unanimously approved a land easement agreement to allow The Boring Company to build a transportation tunnel beneath university property.

The board gave Interim President Chris Heavey the green light to to grant a subsurface easement, giving The Boring Company the right to build and operate the tunnel under UNLV.

Under the agreement, The Boring Company will pay the university $1,000, cover approximately $25,000 in legal and administrative costs, and add a Vegas Loop station on campus at no cost to UNLV or the state system.

In exchange, UNLV will relinquish future use of the underground strip of land. The board also authorized the chancellor to finalize and sign the easement agreement.

Additionally, the Westgate Las Vegas recently posted video update on the ongoing Boring Co. tunnel construction near the resort. Once complete, that segment of the Vegas Loop is expected to allow people to travel underground to and from Harry Reid International Airport.

The routes are planned to run along Paradise Road, where the Westgate is located. No timeline has been announced for when the work will be finished.
