LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada drivers are paying an average of $4.36 per gallon for gasoline as of Wednesday, up from $3.54 a month ago — an increase of 82 cents. The national average has also climbed, rising from $3.48 on Monday to $3.57, according to AAA.

AAA confirmed that the price of crude oil is a major factor in what drivers are paying at the pump. The organization does not make gas price predictions. Many organizations say it is too early to gauge the full impact of the increase, which comes amid turmoil in the Middle East.

Las Vegas businesses feel the impact

For some Las Vegas businesses, the effects are already being felt. Flora Couture, a luxury floral shop near Sahara Avenue, operates its own delivery service with a fleet of drivers and trucks.

“It affects us from the ground up when we get our product in from the farms,” said Michelle Joy Howard, founder of Flora Couture. “You start seeing those effects from the farm level and then from the distributor level, wholesale house level, because we get hit with fuel surcharges at every step along the way.”

Howard said her team has served the Las Vegas Valley for nearly three decades and has experienced rising gas prices before. In response to the current increase, she said the company has begun grouping deliveries to reduce the number of trips and is monitoring operations from start to finish.

“We’ve seen it here before. We’ve seen it a little bit higher in the past,” Howard said.

Rideshare drivers are also weighing the financial impact. Uber driver Leanne Hall said the rising costs put her earnings at risk.

“I do it to make money. And if the gas prices keep going up, then I’m not going to be, it’d be foolish to do it,” Hall said.

Nevada driver Irving said the increase signals a larger problem.

“I think we are in for a gas crisis. That’s ridiculous,” Irving said.

Nevada’s average gas price on Monday was $4.21. By Wednesday, it had risen to $4.36 — an increase of 15 cents in two days.
