LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A wrong-way driving bill, also known as “Jaya’s Law,” has been signed into law by Governor Joe Lombardo.
The bill was named after three-year-old Jaya Brooks who died in a wrong crash on the 95 before Christmas in 2023. Her family has been pushing for change since.
A.B. 111 will increases penalties for wrong-way driving. The bill also makes wrong-way driving a misdemeanor.
The family traveled to Carson City to testify in favor of the bill.
“Everyday I look forward to spending the day with my daughter,” said Jan Brooks, Jaya’s father. “On December 9, 2023, that was taken from me.”
Jaya’s mother, Darea, wants to make sure no parent has to go through the trauma she has.
