LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – A Las Vegas man has been charged with cyberstalking via social media.
38-year-old Brian Patrick Solomon is accused of sending thousands of messages, including alleged threats, via Instagram to two employees at the University of Texas at Austin.
According to the indictment, beginning on or around June 6, and lasting until Sept. 16, Solomon sent direct messages threatening to injure two high level employees of the school. The DOJ says that in May and June, Solomon requested a total of $450 via CashApp from a victim.
A records check revealed that on July 26, 2023, Solomon was arrested in Austin, Texas on charges of vehicle burglary and criminal mischief. He was also arrested on Feb. 27 of this year in Nevada for stalking and had a protection order entered against him.
In July, a victim attended the ESPYs and was scheduled for a speaking engagement. Solomon allegedly told the victim he had purchased tickets for the event. The event revoked his ticket due to security concerns and the victim paid out of pocket for security.
Solomon was arrested on Sept. 16 and admitted to police that he had used multiple Instagram accounts to send thousands of direct messages to the victim, saying that he had become angry with her. Solomon also told police he had requested money from the victim to travel to her, and that he previously flown to Austin.
Solomon’s trial will begin on Dec. 17. He is charged with one count of interstate communications with threat to injure and one count of cyberstalking. He faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.
