LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is working to get millions of dollars to help rural and tribal law enforcement agencies.
The “Invest to Protect Act” passed the senate unanimously, and it would set aside $250 million to help these agencies invest in recruitment, retention, training and mental health support.
“I know after reaching out and talking with our law enforcement in Nevada including our rural areas and our tribal law enforcement that they have challenges because they don’t have a large revenue base,” said Cortez Masto.
In Southern Nevada, Boulder City police and the Paiute Police Department would be eligible.
Cortez Masto says she’s hopeful a companion bill in the house will past next month.
