New billboard campaign starts in Las Vegas Valley to fight violent crime

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas branch of the FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are working to fight violent crime in the valley.

Law enforcement announced a new billboard campaign encouraging people to tip off officials about violent crime.

LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill was joined by Special Agent Christopher Delzotto as well as the president of Clear Channel Outdoor. McMahill thanked the officers in the community every day who help keep people safe.

He says violent crime overall is down this year. McMahill pointed to some facts, saying there have only been four officer-involved shootings, compared to 12 last year in Metro’s jurisdiction. He also says homicides are down 30 percent.

“Our homicide section here in Las Vegas is simply second to none. Every single year, we solve 95 plus percent of the homicides that occur in our jurisdiction,” McMahill said. “So the message is, crushing violent crime, you’re not going to get away with killing somebody in my jurisdiction.”

The signs, which read “Help Crush Violent Crime,” can be seen on the southeast corner of Decatur and Charleston as well as the northeast corner of Koval and Tropicana.
