LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — On this day in 2007, the New Frontier casino came down in a cloud of dust. Its implosion marked the end of a wave of high-profile demolitions along the Las Vegas Strip.

The New Frontier started its life as the Hotel Last Frontier in 1942. The western-themed property featured 105 hotel rooms as well as an authentic western village that included the Silver Slipper casino.

The property changed hands and names several times over the years. In 1955, it became the New Frontier, and when Howard Hughes bought the property in 1967, it reopened as the Frontier.

The Frontier gained fame for being the focus of the longest labor dispute in U.S. history. Its sale ended the strike, but the property would never know true success again.

It shut down in July of 2007, and crews imploded its 16-story tower 18 years ago today.
