LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police took a North Carolina pastor into custody last month, after finding multiple drugs and guns inside his Strip hotel room.
David McGee, of Greenville, N.C., is facing charges of possessing and transporting drugs, as well as carrying a firearm during the commission of drug-related charges.
According to an arrest report obtained by FOX5, McGee had called Strat Hotel security to report missing property around 1:50 p.m. McGee would mention to officers that he had a gun in his guitar case inside his room.
Security officers then detained McGee and brought him into a holding room. The report also noted that McGee had previously brought a shotgun into his hotel room, which officers asked him to remove or leave the property.
Fearing an active shooter situation due to the type of gun found and the elevation of his hotel room, security officers alerted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
According to the report, McGee would tell LVMPD investigators that he flew to town to locate his daughter, who he described as “not well” because of ongoing mental health concerns and drug use.
He would also decline officers’ requests to search his hotel room’s safe, before later admitting that they would find fentanyl powder and pills in the safe. He added that he intended to give the pills to his daughter, once he located her.
A search of his hotel room yielded two plastic bags of marijuana, a black and silver scale with residue on it, marijuana-infused brownies and cookies, and fentanyl pills and powder inside the safe. Police would also find a long-range AR-15 with a scope inside McGee’s guitar case, along with two handguns and body armor.
McGee was released from custody with the condition that he stay out of trouble. He is due back in court on Dec. 19, 2024, for a status check.
