LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The city of North Las Vegas has added crossing guards at Eastern and Owens following the death of a 12-year-old boy who was hit and killed while walking to school earlier this month.
Two crossing guards will be stationed at the intersection in the morning and two in the afternoon to assist middle school and high school students getting to and from school safely.
Sergio Mayoral, team manager for All City Management Services of Nevada, said the response has been positive.
“This morning we had a lot of thank yous from the parents and the kids and just a lot of kudos and people are happy to have us out here and I’m just glad that we’re able to do this every single morning,” Mayoral said. “To make sure we have a barrier in place, make sure we protect these kids and also to obviously help mitigate the traffic issues.”
Oh’Ryan Brooks, the man accused of hitting and killing 12-year-old Cristofer Suarez, is expected back in court on October 28th.
