LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As authorities investigate a ‘suspicious’ church fire in North Las Vegas, FOX5 is learning this is not the first time the church’s property has been damaged.
The fire broke out on the backside of the Tabernacle of Faith Church on Thursday at around 2 p.m., according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
The church is located just off Lake Mead Blvd. and the I-15.
Lead Pastor Fredrick Johnson says they’ve had incidents of damage in the past, including windows getting broken, fences cut and A/C units stolen. The church now has cages around the A/C units on their roof.
Last week’s fire was the most extreme incident they’ve experienced, Johnson says.
“What we won’t do is panic,” Johnson says. “Hopefully we’ll find someone responsible for it, but in the meantime, we are prayerfully and wisely figuring out what we can do to make it safer.”
The church has a ‘no trespassing’ sign posted, but they plan on upping security even further. They want to add cameras and a sturdy fence around the property.
Johnson says they’re not giving up or shutting down operations, and that they will continue to serve the community they’ve called home for more than 30 years.
“To the ones that did this, I’m charged to forgive you and say that I love you and I pray that whatever is going on in their life, that God will work it out,” he says.
