NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A North Las Vegas man was hospitalized after reentering his burning home on Saturday.

North Las Vegas firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 3400 block of Edinboro Ridge Avenue around 5 a.m.

Initial reports stated that residents woke to find a fire in the garage and all evacuated the house. One male resident reentered to try and put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

Arriving crews were able to isolate the fire in the garage, which firefighters say sustained “significant damage.” Additionally, the man who reentered the home sustained serious burns on his hands and was transported to UMC Trauma.

A family pet also died as a result of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
